AssessLess privacy notice
Privacy & data use
Effective date: May 18, 2026 · Policy version: 2026.05.18-public-launch
AssessLess is a self-serve appeal-preparation tool for Kendall County homeowners. AssessLess, as the controller for this self-serve homeowner workflow, uses only the data needed to check property facts, manage an owner-scoped workspace, prepare packet materials, support the account, and maintain security and audit records.
Plain-English privacy summary
- We use the smallest practical amount of information needed to run the homeowner workspace, support requests, security checks, and audit trail.
- Upload sensitive parcel or tax documents only after sign-in; do not email parcel PDFs, tax bills, IDs, photos, or other sensitive documents.
- Account data requests can start from the public account request page or by emailing privacy@assessless.app.
- Retention in plain English: records are kept while your workspace, support, security, payment, dispute, or audit needs remain active, then deletion or anonymization is reviewed against the exceptions below.
Data categories we collect and use
Depending on what you do in the product, AssessLess may collect and use account and authentication data; property lookup and parcel facts; parcel PDFs and parsed fields; homeowner-entered evidence details such as condition notes, repair estimate details, comparable-sale details, assessment notice details, and tax-bill details; generated packet and report materials; payment and access records; and support, privacy-request, security, and audit logs.
The plain-language packet promise is narrow: use only what is needed to check whether strong official evidence supports preparing a $50 total self-file PDF/DOCX appeal packet, help you review it, and support access or delivery problems. No direct county automation is enabled, so uploaded official PDFs remain homeowner-provided source records.
The paid flow may collect payment metadata through Stripe when checkout and paid packet delivery are active. AssessLess does not need your full card number, and payment records are used for access confirmation, receipt, refund/support, tax/accounting, dispute, abuse-prevention, and audit purposes.
Processors and service providers
AssessLess currently uses Supabase for database, authentication, private storage, and Supabase Auth transactional email for sign-in and account messages; Vercel for hosting and application runtime; and Stripe for payment processing and access/payment records when checkout is active. A branded email provider or sender domain is not approved for public production use until recorded separately, and no additional processor category is approved right now.
We do not sell homeowner information. We also do not use county/vendor data in a way that bypasses source permissions. We do not scrape public parcel or tax pages.
Retention schedule
AssessLess now uses a category-specific retention schedule instead of one blanket “indefinite for now” rule. The schedule keeps destructive cleanup disabled by default, but it names which records are eligible for owner-scoped deletion or anonymization after export and operator review, and which records are retained for payment, tax/accounting, dispute, abuse-prevention, support, security, privacy-request, or audit exceptions.
- Account and workspace records: kept while account, workspace, support, security, or privacy-request needs remain active; eligible for deletion or anonymization after owner export and operator review unless an exception applies.
- Parcel PDFs, parsed fields, generated packets, and evidence metadata: kept while workspace, packet delivery, support, or dispute-review needs remain active; eligible for deletion or anonymization after export and operator review.
- Private evidence storage objects: deleted only through an explicit, owner-scoped, audited operator run after metadata export and review; no automatic storage cleanup is enabled.
- Property lookup events and minimized telemetry: reviewed for anonymization or deletion after owner export, or under a later approved cleanup schedule; older fixed-expiry metadata is not treated as an active cleanup job.
- Payment, tax/accounting, dispute, and abuse-prevention records: retained as exception records for access, receipts, refunds, disputes, abuse prevention, and auditability.
- Support, security, privacy-request, and operator audit logs: minimized where practical but retained when needed to prove requests, access, support actions, or safety/security decisions.
Local browser data is separate from hosted records; signing out clears known saved property/intake data from the device where that cleanup control is available.
Rights and request workflow
To request export, deletion, correction, or account-data review, email privacy@assessless.app from the homeowner email used for AssessLess. Include the property address or workspace label only if needed to identify the request, and do not email extra sensitive documents.
You can also start from the public account request page or, after sign-in, the signed-in account page. AssessLess verifies owner scope before export or deletion review and records the outcome for auditability.
AssessLess is an Illinois-focused homeowner workflow for Kendall County, Illinois property-tax appeal preparation. Depending on where you live, you may also request export, deletion, correction, access, or objection/limitation review. AssessLess handles those requests through the same owner-verified review path and may retain exception records when required for security, support, payment, dispute, tax/accounting, or audit reasons.
Operational identifiers and contacts
AssessLess operations is the current product operator/controller contact for this self-serve workflow. For privacy requests, email privacy@assessless.app. For access, delivery, or support issues, email support@assessless.app. No public postal mailing address is approved for publication yet, so use the email request path until a public mailing address is approved and posted.
AssessLess is not directed to children under 13, and children under 13 should not use the product or upload homeowner documents. If a parent or guardian believes a child provided information, email privacy@assessless.app so the owner-scoped record can be reviewed.
If you believe there has been a security incident involving your AssessLess account or uploaded records, email support@assessless.app and include only the minimum details needed to identify the account or workspace. Do not send parcel PDFs, tax bills, IDs, photos, or other sensitive records by email. AssessLess records security reports, preserves necessary audit evidence, reviews containment and notification obligations, and follows the owner-reviewed incident runbook.
